Side is a Greco-Roman harbour town built on a small peninsula roughly seventy kilometres east of Antalya, and it is one of the few places on this coast where a major archaeological site and a working holiday resort share the same few streets. The standing columns of the Temple of Apollo sit at the water's edge, a large Roman theatre dominates the approach road, and the lanes between them have been pedestrianised into a dense grid of shops, cafés and fish restaurants around the old harbour. Administratively none of this is its own district — Side belongs to Manavgat.
Ruins in one place, hotels in another
The thing to understand before booking is that the peninsula and the accommodation are separate worlds. Almost nobody sleeps inside the old town; the hotel belts sit along the coast either side of it. Sorgun, to the east, is set in pine forest and holds the more upmarket properties. Kumköy lies to the west, Çolaklı further along again, and Titreyengöl clusters around its lagoon. A guest in any of these is two to eight kilometres from the columns, which is a pleasant enough drive and an unpleasant walk in August.
Moving around
There is no tram and no comfortable walking route between the belts. Movement means a taxi or a dolmuş — the shared minibuses that run the coast road on fixed routes for a fixed fare, frequent by day and thinning sharply after dinner. Transfers from Antalya airport take around an hour. If you are planning an evening in the old town, settle the return leg before setting off rather than assuming a rank will be busy at midnight.
What that means for arrangements
Because the belts are strung out, the place a listing names matters more here than it does in the city. There are currently 44 live listings covering Side and the Manavgat coast. A profile that specifies Sorgun or Kumköy is more useful than one claiming the whole province, and confirming which belt you are actually in avoids a long and expensive misunderstanding. Hotel policy is the other variable: ask your reception directly what its visitor rules are, since neighbouring properties on the same road often differ. Our hotel visit guidance covers how to ask.
Season and market
Side has served German and Russian holidaymakers for decades, and that pattern shapes the calendar: spring and autumn are genuinely busy rather than an afterthought, and many properties trade well either side of the summer peak. For the administrative town behind the resort strip, see Manavgat; for a comparison with the newer corridor nearer the airport, see Belek.
Ground rules
Strictly 18 and over, and every arrangement must be consensual and lawful. Never send money or a deposit before meeting, never post your room number publicly, and walk away from any conversation that feels rushed or coercive.

Frequently asked questions
- How far is Side from Antalya airport?
- The transfer takes around an hour, covering roughly 65 to 75 kilometres of coast road east of the city. Most guests arrive by pre-booked transfer or taxi rather than public transport.
- Can I walk from my hotel to the ancient town?
- Usually not comfortably. The hotel belts at Sorgun, Kumköy, Çolaklı and Titreyengöl sit between two and eight kilometres from the peninsula, so a dolmuş or a taxi is the normal way in. Services thin out noticeably after dinner.
- Is Side only busy in high summer?
- No. The German and Russian holiday markets here have travelled in spring and autumn for decades, so the season runs broadly from April to October rather than just July and August. A number of properties do close over winter.
